Live in Spain now, near Barcelona. The football is great but the atmosphere for football in England is special. Despite the rising prices, players you can't relate to, wall to wall footy on TV and the end of terraces, no matter what they throw at the game, you can't beat a day at the footy. Crowds in the lower divisions that put those in europe to shame, bovril and a pie, click of the turnstile, away fans, scarves, songs - unique to our little island.

First Game

Can't remember, probably aged 4 or 5 (around '72/'73) and taken to Bramall Lane by my dad. Tony Currie and Alan Woodward are the heroes.

Best Game

Leicester City 2 Sheffield United 5, Dave Bassett's Blades claim a second successive promotion to from 3rd Div to the top flight. Deane and Agana unstoppable, Bob Booker a cult hero. Wednesday relegated the same day!

Worst Game

Relegated to Div 4 for the first and, thankfully, only time. Losing to Walsall on the last day, they stay up, we go down. Don Givens misses a penalty and goes down in history for all the wrong reasons.

You park up and are met by kids wanting to "protect" your car. You walk across the Park and wonder whether you will make it back to see your car again! But, you then enter that away end, great view and, just on kick off, the Kop sings its anthem. This is when you realise what football really is about. Yanks please don't move!

The worst of the old grounds, crumbling terrace, fences with barbed wire on top, crushed to your last breath in the days before you could ever think a Hillsborough would happen, scary and, would never go back.
