Eintracht Frankfurt to increase stadium capacity to 60,000

Friday 15th April 2022

Eintracht Frankfurt have announced plans to increase the capacity of Waldstadion to 60,000.

The Bundesliga club will add an additional 11,000 safe standing spaces after getting agreement from the local council.

The stadium was originally opened in 1925 and until recently was known as the Commerzbank Arena. It has hosted numerous international matches including World Cups in 1974 and 2006, Euro 88 and the 2011 Women's World Cup.

From 2023, the stadium will also be used to host NFL matches as American football heads back to Germany.

Work on the stadium will begin in the autumn.

Eintracht Frankfurt to increase Commerzbank Arena capacity to 60,000

Saturday 2nd November 2019

Eintracht Frankfurt have announced plans to increase the capacity of the Commerzbank Arena to from 51,500 to 60,000.

The Bundesliga side will do so by installing safe standing rail seats in the north west corner - a move which will make it the 6th largest stadium in Germany.

Frankfurt have played in the ground since it was built in 1925. It has been extensively renovated since then and has hosted matches at several major tournaments including the World Cup in 1974 and 2006, Federations Cup in 2005 and the Women's World Cup in 2011.

Part of the change will also see the club take over the running of the stadium - a move which will enable them to host concerts and other non-football events.

It is hoped that the increase in capacity will be completed by 2023.
