"An orient fan talks about Southend"

facebook-user-44749's review of Roots Hall

As an Leyton orient fan, Southend are our rivals, you could say our biggest. But Southend is a ground I wasn't keen on. They shut the food bar at half time, the pitch side is looking up on the pitch which is hard to see - it's an old fashioned ground. I felt the stewards were very bad to be honest as I was walking to go to the bathroom I was told to go back to my seat in a rude way. So I did and as I got to my seat I was accused of throwing an object onto the pitch. I said "no way I'm not a thug". They said they caught me on camera. I felt bullied because I know I didn't and I wouldn't, so I asked to have a look at the camera and they said "just behave yourself". I wasn't doing anything, I was just supporting my team - no swearing, northing so what I can't sing now? And also we lost 3-0, so it really was a rubbish day - but thats being a football fan!

Location

Ok, but if they got big they may have to leave as there are houses around the ground and you feel kinda cramped

Facilities

Didn't like it

Food & Drink

There is nice pub (I've forgot what its called) it's on the main road for away fans. But if I have a drink at Southend, I have one at the sea front

Police & Stewards

Felt bullied by the stewards, but I thought the police were okay. I remember coming into Southend Victoria and 4 policemen came up to us. I was with my brother and friend and we needed to go to the bathroom and there were no toilets on the train we needed to go. A policeman came in saying "do you mind if I can check you after you're done?" So the policemen checked us but they were very friendly and they knew we weren't thugs. They asked us to put all of our stuff from our pockets into this hat. I had a lot of coins and as we left I forgot to take the coins out of the hat and all 5ps fell out his hat! I thought it was funny - probably my funniest football story. As we left the station the copper goes "thanks for the tip mate" I thought they were good banter - I liked that.

Atmosphere

Well it's always good - derby matches are brilliant
