trebor's review of The Kassam Stadium

A Stadium that is a long way from the City Centre with a walk from the nearby housing estate that smelt strongly of Dog Pooh and on to the stadium that had an aroma of a Farm.

Location

If you live in the surrounding Housing estate it would be great.
But it is a long way out of town,at least 40 minutes.
Catch Bus X5 from Train Station to Blackbird Leys, and leave Bus at last stop.
Bear left and head along Knights Road you can either walk to the end of this path or cut through the square that has a white barrier. The Stadiums straight ahead. Their was a very narrow entrance that very large people would struggle to squeeze through and a kissing gate at another entrance. Disabled people may have to look at going a different way.
The bonus is the Bus Journey does allow a tour of the City and the opportunity to break your journey within it.

View

Good view, lots of legroom. The lower tier was slightly exposed as the roof or wind shilds did not protect the lower tier much.

Facilities

Seemed plenty for the stand, but a bit hard to find.

Food & Drink

The Burger Van outside was OK but sold cheap white only Buns.
There are a few outlets in the Complex in the car park.
Inside the Pies appeared to look all right service was good if a bit slow.
The Stadium gates open later than normal but even if you do like entering early for a to watch the early Sky game with a Pint you couldn't as there aren't any TV's

Police & Stewards

Some Old heads supporting very young ones.
Plenty of Officers around town Oxford United V Peterborough must be one of the lowest profile match, with fans from two of the least threatening towns in the UK, perhaps Oxford sounded like a nice day out for Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

Atmosphere

Only Galastasaray or Boca Juniors can get Five. But there were far fewer generic songs present here. and Oxford sang a bit. The open Stadium means a lot of noise gets lost to the wind.
