trebor's review of Ashton Gate

Only Fools & Horses fans would be interested to know this is where large parts of the later series were filmed with Nelson Mandela House overlooking the Dolman Stand.

Location

For travelling fans it's not to great (although I do not put blame on this to the club) The local transport is horrendous, the roads are gridlocked, the Trains to/from the local Stations are to few and the Buses are hard to find in the City Centre. And none go directly to the stadium from Temple Meads train station.
I found a Bus to the City Centre and No 24 from there, it took me to the street nearest my stand but for the return this looked inside the road block, so I walked left under the main roads and right to a stop that had City Centre direction traffic alongside.
All in all it took the best part of an hour to get to/from the ground, the Club is losing out from this as from others Parking restrictions in the area make going by car a hassle too. Bristol City doing well should get far bigger crowds than they do but getting there puts so many off.

View

If the Roof covered the front rows it'd be great, Plenty of Legroom and wide comfy seats, it feels above the usual quality

Facilities

Gents only had Sit down Toilets ( I hope otherwise I walked into the ladies) loads to use, clean enough.

Food & Drink

Awkward system of entering at one end f the stand with an outlet right by meant many headed straight for it. Hot Drinks served without lids a tiny area on the counter to do your own milk and the area hadn't any shelves to put it down to sort yourself out. Then with it being one side and the seat the other a awkward trek through people with an uncovered hot drink.
I wasn't cheap either £2.50 for a tea.

Police & Stewards

Think they fell asleep the few there missed the Pitch Invader.

Atmosphere

All for the Bristol City fans, those that sang stayed together and drowned out their own generic fans copycat shite. It was mostly City songs about the Club and who they hated.
Forest are certainly not ''Big'' anymore. Few turned up and those that did were very quiet.
