"A spruced up non league ground"

has rated Moss Rose 3.5 out of 5.

ryantollerfield's review of Moss Rose

Mose Rose has the feel of a traditional non league ground that has been dragged kicking and screaming up to league standard. The ground itself is pleasent enough, abeit on the small side. I found it unusual that the ticket office and club shop were located upstairs in the new side stand, and that an area of the executive boxes in the same stand are opened up as a supporters bar pre match. The ground consists of four small but very different stands. The away end is just 12 or so rows of uncovered terracing. To the left of the away end is the Silk FM stand - a seated stand which straddles the half way line and has a small terrace in front. The home end is unusual, as the rear half of this covered stand is terracing, and the front half is seated. The new stand, to the right of the away end, consists of 8 rows of seats with executive boxes to the rear.

Location

Located on the southern edge of Macclesfield, around 20-25 minutes walk from the train station - as you leave the station, at the bottom of the station approach, turn left onto Sunderland Street and follow until the traffic lights at Park Green wWar memorial and gardens). Turn left onto Mill Lane (it is probably better to cross onto the opposite side of the road here at the traffic lights) and follow this road which becomes London Road. Follow this road for about 10 minutes and the ground will appear straight ahead.

View

Very good, helped massively by there been no obstructed views in the ground. The away end terracing was steep enough to allow a good view of the action.

Facilities

Excellent in the executive area pre match, but very basic in the away end - the kind of thing you would expect at a non league ground.

Food & Drink

Again, excellent choice and value in the executive area pre match, including the good old chip buttie. On the away end it was the usual football refreshments i.e burgers, hot dogs, Yorkie bars. But on my visit (MTFC vs Bradford City Nov 09) hot food and soft drinks were out of stock before kick off, meaning a lot of unhappy Bradford fans on the away end.

Police & Stewards

Very helpful and friendly, and helped show the club in a good light.

Atmosphere

The Bradford fans on the away end made a lot of noise, especially after coming back from 0-2 down to equalise, but most of the noise seemed to escape with the away end been uncovered. The only noise heard from the home stands was when Macclefield scored their 2 goals, but again any noise stuggled to carry over to the away end.
