"Hadleigh United - Millfield"

I visited here to watch a local derby against Brantham Athletic in the Eastern Counties League Premier Division. The ECL is Step 5 in the pyramid, the equivalent to the Combined Counties, Spartan South Midland etc, so I wasn't expecting too much in the way of attendance

Location

Millfield is located a few hundred yards from Hadleigh town centre so is well served by pubs and places to eat. There is no rail station in Hadleigh, the nearest one being located in Ipswich, with the #90 and 91 buses running between the towns. The ground has a large car park which is free to use.

The turnstile side of the ground houses the clubhouse, which is fairly new and well appointed. To the left of the clubhouse is a small covered terrace. There is no cover behind either goal and the right hand end includes a grass bank (a river runs behind the goal at the left hand end). The far side of the ground is where the main stand is located. This has bench seating for approximately 200.

Facilities

Toilets are located in the clubhouse and are clean and fairly new. There was a range of souvenirs available from a table adjacent to the turnstiles - unusual for a club at this level to have what is, essentially, a club shop

Food & Drink

There is a licenced bar in the clubhouse and a snack bar in the covered terracing. The latter sold the usual sort of food and drink, although the scampi and chips was unusual

Atmosphere

I was suprised to find that the crowd for this game was well over 100 and, although there wasn't too much in the way of atmosphere there was plenty of encouragement and both sets of fans were friendly folk.
