has rated GMB Stadium 3.0 out of 5.

johnwickenden's review of GMB Stadium

I visited Westfield Lane to see an NPL Premier Division match between Frickley and Stourbridge. First things firt, if you're not aware, don't go looking for Frickley in the map book - the team play in South Elmsall between Doncaster and Wakefield. It's an old ground with one large stand and is quite traditional, although it could do with some TLC. A new housing development has sprung up around the ground, but it is well signposted

Location

The ground itself is located about half a mile from South Elmsall town centre and railway station, where there are also the usual assortment of watering holes and fast food outlets. The ground lays back off Westfield Lane and there is a large grassed area in front which is used for car parking

View

Turnstiles are on the Main stand side of the ground, as is the club bar. Both ends are uncovered terrace, whilst the far side is site to a covered terrace all the way along. The Main stand is quite large, covering 75% of the length of the pitch. It is fronted with a large terrace area whilst the seats are a mixture of wooden benches and plastic tip ups. The seats are raised up high so give adecent view of the action

Facilities

Toilets are at either end of the main stand. The club shop is (was) located in a portacabin at the eastern end of the ground (next to the bar and supporters club) but just prior to the 16/17 season this was vandalised by some local teens and the club cannot confirm if it will ever re-open. A kimited selection of Frickley memorabilia is sold from the bar

Food & Drink

Obviously there is the supporters club, but at the opposite end of the main stand is the ubiquitous snack bar seling pies, burgers, chips etc

Atmosphere

Although it was only the 4th game of the season, Frickley were bottom of the table and this match did not go well for them. The crowd were certainly quick to show their displeasure with the officials, but it's clear they have some passion for their team
