etxebe has rated Gwangju World Cup Stadium 2.0 out of 5.
I visited South Korea in summer 2018 for a week or so and one evening I had a choice of two games in the south to attend - Jeonnam Dragons in K-League 1 or Gwangju in K-League 2. Jeonnam had a smaller 'soccer specific' ground but to be honest I was swayed by Gwangju's World Cup stadium (especially as it played host to Korea's famous quarter-final win over Spain). When I got there though I soon realised it was a poor decision.
Don't get me wrong it's a decent sized stadium but straight away it was apparent it had seen better days and a poorly attended second tier fixture didn't seem fitting for a former World Cup venue.
With less than a thousand in attendance I had not only the whole row but the whole section to myself, and despite the small size of the country the away side only brought a handful (literally half a dozen) of away fans. The game itself wasn't bad but having made the mistake of setting goal alerts on the Jeonnam match (which finished 3-5!) I had never been so disappointed to watch a 2-2 game.
You'll probably need to get a bus to the stadium
I was a bit disappointed to turn up to a huge stadium and see hardly anyone there. Maybe it's better in K-League 1 but you don't even have many away fans travelling despite the small size of the country. Typical with many of the Korean 2002 stadiums sadly.
