BMH's review of West View

I now know it's Baycup, not Backup. I also know this is the 3rd highest ground in England perched on top of the Pennines. So when it's fine it's as picturesque as you could imagine, but when it's wet (which it is often) its very wet. The game was touch and go before hand, even more so when one small area in a corner had been heavily sanded and there was a doubt about the 'bounce test'. After a massive amount of graft from the ground staff, the game kicked off 1/2 hour late. The pitch didn't help the game as a spectacle, but it felt that BB wanted it more (as cup holders) than SL.

Location

Metrolink Manchester to Rochdale, bus Rochdale to Bacup. Walk up quite steep hill to the ground.

View

Hate to appear 'sniffy' about grounds, but comfort is not a word that could be applied to the ground. But that's the beauty of places like this isn't it? It is for me. The view from the stands to the pitch is very good and the views out over the hills spectacular.
One small ish seated covered stand on the 'houses side' of ground & a covered standing terrace on the 'hill side' where I stood. Open ends behind both goals, with the clubhouse in the process of being re-built with a Premier League grant.

Facilities

Basic. Very. But this is 'grassroots' at its finest. The Worlds Longest serving manager Brent Peters, 26 years and counting, gave his time freely for a chat before hand, but then had to crack on with the rest of the jobs he does to keep Bacup afloat. All the other ground staff, just grafted all night long.

Food & Drink

Attention to detail. The sign of good bar staff, who were working tirelessly in the clubhouse & knew pretty much what every one wanted. Served quickly and cheerfully.

Outside the small food kiosk by the main gates had long queues which tells you everything.

Police & Stewards

No one's daft enough to muck around up here. The 'Ultras behind one goal, just had to have a word spoken to them when they got a bit too boisterous and they were soon back in line supporting the team.

Atmosphere

The young Ultras behind one goal gave their team great support throughout
