Wednesday 27th August 2025
Portuguesa who play in the Brazilian Serie D have revealed plans to increase the capacity of their stadium to 46,500.
The Estadio de Caninde has been the club’s home since it opened in 1956 and has a current capacity of 21,000.
The ambitious plans would more than double the stadium's capacity and would also include a hotel, food court, social club and parking garage with space for 4,600 vehicles.
Construction will start in January 2026 and is expected to take just over 3 years to complete.

USL side Pittsburgh Riverhounds have announced plans to expand the capacity of their Highmark Stadium from 5,000 to 15,000.
The stadium sits on the banks of the Monongahela river. The redesigned stadium will be a three-sided horseshoe shape to give stunning views of downtown Pittsburgh.
The expansion is long overdue for the club who have sold out three quarters of their matches since 2023.

USL outfit Sacramento Republic has broken ground on its new stadium. The 12,000 seater soccer-specific venue is be opened in time for the start of the 2027 USL season.

Sunday 17th August 2025
Stockport County have revealed plans to redevelop Edgeley Park. The League One club are planning to increase capacity to over 18,000 from the current figure of around 10,000.
If approved, work could start at the end of this season. However the plans are likely to face opposition from a local tree-hugging group who are concerned about a proposed new car park which will be built on “natural green land”.
Here’s hoping the local council sees sense and approves the plans.

Friday 1st August 2025
Wrexham have submitted a planning application to add an extra 2,250 seats to their new Kop.
The plans would see the capacity of the new stand swell to 7,750 with the club aiming to increase matchday attendance as well as host international matches in the future.
If approved, the new larger stand would take the stadium’s overall capacity to over 18,000.

Benfica have revealed plans to modernise and expand the Estadio da Luz. The stadium was opened in 2003 and has a current capacity of 68,000.
The club is already progressing with plans to increase capacity to 70,000 by the start of the 2026/2027 season, but updated plans will see the capacity rise to 80,000.
The stadium renovations are only a small part of a much wider project which will see €220m invested in the local area. Other developments include a 10,000 seat indoor arena and two sports halls with capacities of 2,500 and 1,500 suitable for basketball, volleyball and boxing.

Wednesday 16th July 2025
AFC Bournemouth have outlined plans to almost double the capacity of Dean Court. The stadium is by far the smallest in the Premier League with a capacity of just over 11,000.
Designs revealed by the club show plans to demolish the South Stand, replacing it with a new 7,000 capacity grandstand.
All 4 corners of the stadium will be filled in, which will add another 1,400 seats. The North and East Stands will also be expanded to take the overall stadium capacity to 20,200.
If approved, it is hoped that work will start in early 2026.

Wednesday 16th July 2025
Greek side PAOK have revealed plans for a new 33,500 capacity stadium.
The stadium will be built to UEFA standards, allowing PAOK to host the highest level UEFA club and national competitions.
No costs or timelines have been revealed for the project.

Thursday 10th July 2025
Leeds United have submitted a planning application to increase the capacity of Elland Road to 53,000.
The proposal would see almost 10,000 extra seats added to the John Charles Stand as the first phase of work which could start within the next year.
The plans are expected to be approved after a public consultation showed a 98% approval rating.
When completed, it would make Elland Road the 7th biggest stadium in the country.

Glentoran FC has gained planning approval to reconstruct The Oval into a modern 5,000-seat ground with improved amenities.
Upgrades include enhanced spectator facilities, better accessibility and mixed-use community areas.
Construction is expected to begin soon, marking a major investment in Northern Ireland's football scene.

Chicago Fire FC unveiled renderings for a new 20,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in Bridgeview, IL.
Design features include open concourses, integrated retail, social zones and strong transit connections.
The modern venue is due to open in 2027 and is part of the club's long-term drive to improve fan experience and community access.

FC Porto's Estadio do Dragao is set for significant upgrades including expanded hospitality zones, retail areas, and enhanced concourses.
The renovation will improve fan circulation and usability for non-football events, boosting the stadium's commercial viability.
These upgrades mark the first major improvements since the stadium's construction in the late 1990s.
