Morocco to build new stadium and renovate 6 others

Wednesday 1st November 2023

Morocco has outlined plans to build a new stadium in Benslimane. Little is known about the new ground other than the budget - approximately £375m and a construction timeline that starts in 2025 and finishes in 2028.

As well as the new stadium, the country also intends to heavily modernise 6 others. An initial investment of £750m will take the stadiums up to the standard required for the county's hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. A second round of renovations will then be undertaken to take the stadiums up to FIFA's requirements for hosting the World Cup in 2030 - that work is expected to cost a further £500m.

The stadiums to be modernised are:

  • Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier
  • Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca
  • Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat
  • Ardar Stadium in Agadir
  • Stade de Marrakech
  • Fez Sports Complex
