Honduras' 2nd largest stadium closed amid safety fears

Honduras' 2nd largest stadium closed amid safety fears

Saturday 14th December 2019

The second largest stadium in Honduras has been closed due to safety fears. The decision comes after videos showed significant movement in the stands during a recent match, leading to fears that it could collapse.

The Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino in Tegucigalpa was built in 1947 and is home to CD Olimpia, FC Motagua and UPNFM. The 34,000 capacity venue is the 2nd largest in Honduras and had hosted many Honduran national team games before the construction of the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in 1998.

The Honduran season resumes in January.
