Castelamere de Stabia - which means Castle by the sea - used to be a sketchy area in the 1980s. However times have changed and this area now offers friendly people who are happy to assist you.
Juve Stabia are currently in serie B - the serving tier of the Italian leagues. They are arguably punching above their weight.
The ground is small but enjoyable - with every seat offering a decent view. You have the curva sud (South stand behind the goal) which is for the ultras. They make plenty of noise throughout the match. The stand has no roof but enjoys the shade of the trees behind it which are taller than the stand. Then you have the Disitanti which runs along the pitch on the east side. Once again no roof, which means you sit in direct sun. In August, September and May, bring a cap or you may melt. What's interesting about this stand, is the flats behind it are taller than the stand, so on the balconies you'll find the residents sitting watching the match. The stand opposite is the Tribune which enjoys the shade. Then you have curva nord (north stand) which is mainly for away supporters.
To get a ticket, you need to go to one of the approved local bars who sell them. I've attached a screenshot of those approved at the moment. The tickets become available about 3 to 4 days before the match, so you can't prebook in advance. These bars prefer to take payment in cash so have it ready.
We sat in the Disitanti stand, an adult ticket was €25 and a child ticket was €15. You need your ID with you when purchasing tickets and entering the stadium. Also note, the seat numbers man nothing. Get in and find empty seats and claim them, it's simple. Like most southern stadiums, you won't find stewards in the seating area, they are found on the exit gates. In the all the matches I've attended, there have never been any incidents. The grounds are rustic to say the least - a reminder of football from 30 or 40 years ago. The sentimental and nostalgic side of me, enjoys this. This is Italy, so you can buy a beer and sit in the stand and watch the match while having a cool beer. 🍺 😎 A bottle of water in the ground cost €1 and Coca Cola was €2. A beer was €2.50.
Around the ground, we parked the car in car park for €5. The attendant watches the car for you, which when renting a car is worthwhile for peace of mind. We sat in a bar and a small square pizza each (me and my son) and 2 bottles of water for €5.
There is no atm near the ground, so go with the cash you need. The nearest is about 10 minutes walk away.
Everyone in the ground will know you are tourist - apart from the strong accent, there is the pale blotchy skin and the sweat pouring of us who come from the northern half of Europe. The locals looked perfectly tanned and healthy skin without a drop of sweat. They will be helpful if you politely ask for help, otherwise they will leave you to enjoy your visit.
Do I recommend a visit to this ground? If you like football, definitely. You get a real feel for local life away from the nearby tourist hotspots of Sorrento and Pompeii. Plus, which football matches in England (or anywhere else in Northern europe) can you enjoy a beer for €2.50 in the stand, in the sun, with Vesuvius as the backdrop, surrounded by some of the friendliest people while watching a football match? 😉😎 Enjoy it. 😊
