"A decent ground"

has rated Firhill 4.0 out of 5.

facebook-user-100661's review of Firhill

The ground consists of 3 stands - the Old Main Stand has stood for over 80 years, and once held 6,000 people, although due to safety issues that is now nearer 3,000. Because it is built mainly of wood, costs for running this stand are high and, with neither Partick Thistle or Glasgow Warriors drawing large crowds, it is rarely used.

Across from this stands the Jackie Husband Stand, an impressive cantilever stand with seating for 6,000 people, including a press area, TV gantry, hospitality area and such. This is where the home fans are normally seated on match days.

To the north end of the ground, the club constructed a 2,000 seat stand running the length of the pitch to comply with the SPL's minimum capacity of 10,000. Ironically, after PTFC spend thousands of building this stand, they were relegated after the SPL decided to lower that limit to 6,000 allowing for Thistle's relegation. This now serves as the away end for Partick Thistle games.

At the other end, a bank of terracing was demolished in recent years to allow the construction of a 1,000 seat stand, funded by building flats/offices behind. However, planning permission was not granted and this end remains untouched.

Location

Plenty of parking available, Underground is only a 15 min walk away and there is a bus stop (into the centre of Glasgow) outside the main stand. Looses marks for the lack of decent pubs in the area.

View

Unsurprisingly, the new(ish) Jackie Husband stand offers great views of the pitch. Leg room could be better, but no worse than most other grounds. The Old Main stand has stanchions that must obstruct the view, but that stand is rarely used now.

Food & Drink

Pies are among the best in the Scottish Football League, and a bit of variety as well. If you are attending a rugby match, the queue's for the bar are murder, but with the alcohol ban in Scottish football that isn't a problem for Thistle games.

Police & Stewards

Points lost for the closure of the gate at the North end of the JH stand at full time. The only league ground in Britain where the home fans are the ones locked in for 10 minutes post match.

Atmosphere

Can vary massively - when 9,000 are in for a Glasgow - Edinburgh Rugby match, the place can be very loud, but other times it can be a serious let down...

The open side at the city end doesn't help matters
