benobagels' review of Scours Lane

In some ways Scours Lane could be considered a rather meh stadium. Nothing terribly noticeable about the ground itself in either a good sense or a bad sense. The ground has a railway line behind it at one end and the River Thames at the other. The Thames Path runs behind the ground and on a nice day is a nice way to get to the ground. Though not exactly direct unless your starting point happens to be somewhere close to the Thames. Has a single seated stand that was built in the last few years, so seats are standard modern plastic seats. Also a couple of covered standing areas. Both the seating and covered standing areas are built with cantilever roofs, so no pillars to block views.

Bar serves standard in major brand beers found at pretty much every football ground in the country, along with the usual range of soft drinks. Only food sold is snacks such as crisps and nuts.

All in all a ground that serves its purpose without being particularly memorable or notable in either a good or bad way.

Location

Nice location in the sense that it's beside the Thames. Not a great location in the sense that it's down a lane off the Oxford Road next to a boat yard.

Is about four kilometres from the town centre and is about two kilometres from either Reading West station or Tilehurst station, neither of which have that frequent a service. Nearest bus stop is about 5 minutes walk away and is served by the frequent number 17 service and the number 16 which is also fairly frequent.

View

No pillars or anything blocking the view. Seated view should be good enough, only a couple of banks of terracing though, but apart from the visit of AFC Wimbledon the crowd is never large enough to not find a spot where the pitch cannot be seen.

Facilities

Has toilets (never needed to use them though so no idea if they're any good). Has a bar. Not much else.

Food & Drink

Standard fare in the way of drinks and snacks (crisps etc). No (hot) food sold though. Unless the away team buggers off without having the food the club provides for them.

Police & Stewards

Policing or stewards not needed really.
