River Plate has announced the ongoing redevelopment work on their El Monumental stadium will make it the largest stadium in South America.
The Argentine club will add around 12,500 extra seats, taking the total stadium capacity to 84,567 - that’s bigger than both Estadio Monumental in Peru (80,093) and the Maracana in Brazil (78,838).
No date has yet been given to start the expansion work.
