Atalanta given green light to host European matches at Gewiss Stadium

Sunday 11th October 2020

Atalanta have been given permission to host European matches at their newly refurbished Gewiss Stadium.

The stadium (also known as Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia or Stadio di Bergamo) has been Atalanta's home since 1928 but its age and size made it unsuitable for Champions League matches, forcing the club to play their home games at Sassulolo's Mapei Stadium and at the San Siro in Milan.

However, with this summer's renovation works now complete, the Serie A club has been granted to play its home European matches at its home stadium. Ajax, Liverpool and FC Midtjylland will all visit the Stadio di Bergamo before Christmas.
