Three Stadiums to Look Out for At the World Cup

Three Stadiums to Look Out for At the World Cup

Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup for the first time this winter, with 32 teams competing for the biggest prize in international football.

There will be eight stadiums used for the event and we have looked at the best three.

Lusail Iconic Stadium – Capacity: 80,000

The Lusail Iconic Stadium will host 10 matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, including the final on the 18th of December.

The atmosphere inside the 80,000-seater stadium for the final is going to be electric, as those in attendance will be set to see who will lift the trophy. As it stands, Brazil is the 5/1 favourite in the FIFA World Cup betting markets to be the team who triumphs in the 22nd edition of the tournament.

Brazil is a very popular team wherever they go in the world, so they are likely to be well supported in Qatar. Their form over the last 12 months has been excellent, which is why they are one of the leading selections in the World Cup betting tips for the trophy.

The Lusail Iconic Stadium only just opened in November 2021. It recently hosted the Lusail Super Cup, so it has had a dress rehearsal to ensure it is well equipped for a major event.

Al Bayt Stadium – Capacity: 60,000

All eyes will be on the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on the 20th of November for the opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup when the hosts Qatar take on Ecuador in Group A.

The Al Bayt Stadium has a retractable roof; there is a hotel built into it, and it can house up to 60,000 fans. As well as the tournament opener, there will be eight other matches at the venue, including one of the semi-finals.

The stadium, which is 35km away from Doha, hosted five matches at the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup. Algeria defeated Tunisia in the final in front of a full capacity.

What is so striking about the Al Bayt Stadium is that from the exterior, it looks like a tent. It was deliberately designed this way by the architects. It includes the traditional colours of black, white and red.

Khalifa International Stadium: Capacity: 45,416

The Khalifa International Stadium is known as the National Stadium in Qatar. It was built back in 1976 so it has staged a lot of football since then, as well as other sporting events such as the World Athletics Championship, Asian Games and, AFC Asian Cup.

The multi-purpose stadium has been renovated twice since it opened 46 years ago. There were plans to increase the capacity from 45,426 up to 68,000 but that proposal was scrapped.

Brazil, England, Argentina, and Spain have all played at the National Stadium in Qatar, so they will be very familiar with it. There will be eight games at the venue this year, including England’s clash with Iran on the 21st of November and the third-place play-off on the 17th of December.

Football fans don’t have long to wait now for the first World Cup to be staged in the Arab world. The hosts will be hoping the tournament finishes as one of the best in history.
