The Most Famous Canadian Footballers

The Most Famous Canadian Footballers

While football (called Soccer in Canada) may not be the most popular sport in Canada, it is slowly gaining a following.

This is due to the presence of Canadian teams in the MLS and some delightful exports to Europe like Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies which have fans flocking to websites such as casinosonline-canada.ca.

So let us look at some of the best players Canada has produced over the years.

Alphonso Davies

While he may just be 20, Davies has the potential to be the greatest ever footballer to come from Canada.

He is a regular at Bayern at such a young age and for good reason. His exceptional run vs Barcelona was one for the ages.

And the grace with which he carries the ball, you would not be mistaken by thinking he is a midfielder.

He was also in the nominees for the Golden Boy losing out to another superstar in Erling Haaland.

Junior Hoilett

The exciting winger is another Canadian stalwart. He plays for English Championship side Cardiff City.

He has previously played for QPR and Blackburn in the English Premier League and has also helped Cardiff to the Premier League in his time there.

He has featured 27 times for Canada scoring 9 Goals in the process. He is still 30 and may still be influential for his national team guiding the young blood.

Randy Samuel

The Trinidad born defender was a model professional.

He was not the most technically proficient but always made the most of his abilities due to his rugged nature.

He debuted for Canada in 1983 and had 82 caps to his name when he hung his boots, the highest of any Canadian player at the time.

He played for many distinguished clubs like the prestigious PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands and in England with Port Vale.

Scott Arfield

Airfield represented Scotland on the youth level but then opted for the Canadian national team and is their current captain.

He plays for Rangers in the Scottish League as a midfielder and is a regular for them. The club has a long-standing relationship with companies offering the best online slots as their front of shirt sponsor.

He has also represented the impressive Burnley side under Sean Dyche who gained promotion and have since stayed in the Premier League.

The strength of Arfield is that he is a team player regularly tracking back and setting up others with some gorgeous crosses with some delightful runs.

Dwayne De Rosario

The attacking midfielder is an MLS great as well as a Canadian great. He is the all time top scorer for Canada with 22 Goals in 81 outings for his national side.

He was also the most valuable player in the 2011 MLS and is a three time MLS Cup winner featuring for San Jose Earthquakes, Toronto FC and Houston Dynamo.

Bottom Line:

The future for Canadian football looks great with players like Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies carrying the mantle from the likes of Dwayne De Rosario.

Senior players like Scott Arfield and Junior Hoilett are also there to guide the young stars so they should aim high.
