Soccer stadium news

Soccer stadium news

Watching soccer is one thing, but doing so in a stunning stadium is a whole other ball park. The smell, the sounds, the tension in the air, is all very different at a ground which has a unique atmosphere, as it gets the blood pumping. It makes betting on soccer feel different too, like somehow your bet means more.

Many fans enhance their enjoyment from watching live soccer by placing bets beforehand. They'll find the top sportsbooks online to get the latest odds, for their favourite teams. It is important to find the best sportsbook that is suited to the types of betting markets you like to place bets on.

Instead of focusing on the games that you can get live odds for, why don't we instead recap some of the latest news from the world of soccer stadiums.

Fans mourn as San Siro demolition plans progress

Other than seeing their team winning week in week out, ideally with a squad composed purely of academy players who were born only minutes away from the ground, if there is one thing that soccer fans like more than anything, it is traditions being upheld. That means that things need to stay the same, as change is scary and unusual. That means people like to walk the same way to the stadium, eat or drink at the same place, place bets on the match at the same time each week, and most importantly, sit in the same seats as they always have done.

Therefore, both Inter Milan and AC Milan fans will still be reeling from the news that the San Siro as we know it is set to be demolished, with an entirely new stadium due to be built in its place. Construction began in 1925, and was modernised in time for the 1990 World Cup, where it was the venue for 6 games, including the quarter final clash between West Germany and Czechoslovakia. It has also seen hundreds of Milan derbies, including 2 in the Champions League knockout stages, in 2003 and 2005, of which AC Milan one both.

One of the most famous soccer photos of all time was taken at the ground, during a derby match when fans from both sides threw flares and missiles onto the pitch, while players from each side watched on as the chaos ensued around them.

While there is no set date for when demolition will officially begin, fans of both clubs, and soccer supporters in general will be devastated to see the beautiful arches of the San Siro destroyed. It means the upcoming Champions League tie between Liverpool and Inter Milan takes on even greater importance, as there won't be many of these occasions left. Liverpool are currently the betting favourite in this tie, with odds of 21/20.

Plans approved to increase Anfield's capacity

Any soccer fan who has ever had the privilege of watching a match at Anfield, the home of Liverpool FC, will know what a special stadium it is. The stories of the atmosphere are legendary, especially on the famous European matches under the lights, where the whole ground feels like it is shaking with excitement. No matter the opposition, Liverpool will always have favourable betting odds with a packed Anfield, as the noise the supporters make can be used to intimidate the opposition.

Therefore, the news that Liverpool's plans to increase the capacity at Anfield have been approved will no doubt delight the supporters. That way, even more fans will be able to fit inside, creating an even greater atmosphere. It also solves a problem that the club have had for a long time, that there are always thousands of fans who cannot secure a seat due to the lack of availability. By raising the capacity even further, it will help ease that pressure too.

It will be a few years yet before the work is completed, but when it is ready ,few would bet against Liverpool in any game they play at the famous stadium in the future. Their next home game is against Newcastle, where they are 1/8 favourites to win.

Gazprom Arena to host the Champions League final

The Champions League final is an event that all soccer fans look forward to, as it sees the best of Europe come together, in a one-off match to decide who is the best. Some of the most famous finals of the last 20 years were the 2005 edition in Istanbul between Liverpool and AC Milan, which Liverpool won on penalties after being 3-0 down at half time, and the 2013 final at Wembley, where Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in extra time.

The location of the final is always important, so fans will be interested to see how the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg deals with the occasion. It has hosted World Cup and European Championship games there before, so it should be more than adequate.

Which teams will make it to the final? The current betting odds favourites are Manchester City at 11/4 and Bayern Munich at 7/2.
