The summer transfer window finally slammed shut at the start of the month and now sides in the Premier League will be left with the squads their respective managers have put together until the market reopens in January, at which point the league table will have taken shape. Big money was spent this year with clubs breaking their individual transfer records and the usual big hitters splashing out the big bucks to attract some of the best players from all corners of Europe.
While the betting exchange tips Manchester City to regain their league title, the cool £100 million they dropped on Jack Grealish, as well as Chelsea's acquisition of Romelu Lukaku dominated the headlines — as did the return of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United. But what about the players lower down the table that may have passed through some of the media's attention. Read on, as we go through some deals that may have gone under the radar for players we think can really shape up the Premier League.
For the past number of years, Odsonne Edouard has been linked with moves to England and he finally secured one on deadline day, as he joined Patrick Viera's new-look Crystal Palace. The Frenchman trades Glasgow for South London as he looks to bring his physical presence and goal scoring accolades to an Eagles side who are winless and struggling so far in the league — although a brace from Chelsea loanee Connor Gallagher was encouraging. If Edouard can hit the ground running at Selhurst Park and bring the kind of firepower we saw at times in a Celtic shirt, then Palace can ease their worries over relegation.
One of the brightest stars in the La Masia academy at one point, Marc Cucurella struggled to adapt to senior football at Barcelona and joined Getafe, where he learnt his craft as a versatile and tricky winger, possessing great ingenuity and end product. He also made a deadline day move but to the south coast for Brighton. The wide man, who can also deputise as a fullback, will fit into Graham Potter's possession-based system at the AMEX and certainly has the fitness to rack up a string of appearances as the Seagulls look to continue to establish themselves as a Premier League outfit.
Defensive reinforcements were vital if Norwich are to stay up this season. Regarded as something of a yo-yo club, bouncing between the Premier league and the Championship, the loan signing of Ozan Kabak should provide them with more stability. The Turkish international already has experience in the top flight, having joined Liverpool for the last six months of last season, where he looked capable despite his young age. Kabak is a good communicator and comfortable in possession, so will be a big asset to Daniel Farke as he looks to keep the Canaries above the drop.
It has been a tough summer for the Saints as they lost a number of stalwart players to Premier League rivals during this window. Ryan Bertrand joined Leicester after seven years on the south coast, providing great cover in either fullback position as the Foxes seemingly always struggle with injuries in that area after losing Ricardo Pereira and James Justin in recent years. Bertrand is a solid fullback with a plethora of experience and will certainly be a big presence in the King Power dressing room.
