Charlotte FC - A Look At The Newest MLS Expansion Team

As Charlotte FC sealed the first-ever win in their history against the New England Revolution, it began a new era in the history of the MLS.

After making history by recording the highest ever attendance in MLS history, the wait of Charlotte FC fans for their first-ever win was now over.

Let us look back at how the new franchise came into being and what they aim to achieve in the near future.

The Birth of Charlotte FC

Since 2018, there have been rumours about Charlotte becoming part of the American soccer system. The expansion of MLS being one of several markets attracting bets from best online casino au.

In 2018, David Tepper, a renowned Hedge fund manager, became the owner of NFL's Carolina Panthers. He had suggested that he had plans to bring the MLS to Charlotte.

Tom Glick, who worked as a chief operating officer at Manchester City previously, was heavily involved in New York City's expansion.

Now, Glick had the responsibility of approving the MLS expansion bid for Tepper. On the other hand, the new Charlotte FC owner had already organized meetings with the league officials.

In September 2019, Tepper announced the developments related to the Bank of America stadium. As a result of $210m coming from the sitting government, the club planned to overhaul the stadium and make it the perfect setting for the MLS.

In November 2019, the city council of Charlotte issued a statement saying that they had approved $110m for the club's infrastructure. This money was dedicated to the stadium and franchise funding.

On 17th December 2019, Charlotte was finally awarded the expansion team by MLS at the Mint Museum.

After the announcement related to the expansion, the club was able to sell 7,000 tickets in the first 24 hours. Unfortunately, their debut in the MLS was delayed until 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In their first match of the maiden MLS campaign, Charlotte FC lost 3-0 to D.C United. Their home debut in the Bank of America created a club record of the highest attendance recorded for an MLS game.

Future Ambitions

By all accounts, the owner of Charlotte FC David Tepper is a risk-taker.

In the short time of his tenure, they have already made a lot of headlines. And that is sure to continue to be the case.

More than 20000 people have bought season tickets to watch their beloved side week in week out.

And while Charlotte may not have the whole 70,000 seats available every week, they are sure to have sizable crowds in excess of 20,000 at every home game. That's something which could massively play in their favour, especially with bookies specialising in sports betting usa.

What remains to be seen is how they approach their recruitment. Atlanta United have shown other clubs how to approach recruitment as they combined some shrewd signings with the acquisition of a certain Tata Martino at the hot seat.

Charlotte FC would also be looking to play by their strength which seems to be their impressive attack. Karol Swiderski and Kamil Jozwiak, fellow international teammates, could prove to be the centre of a promising attack for the MLS newcomers.
