Central Coast Stadium: An A-League gem

Central Coast Stadium: An A-League gem

The A-League will feature 15 different venues in 2023-24. Many stadiums across Australia and New Zealand are not soccer-specific, meaning the venues are shared with AFL and rugby teams. Moreover, many of the stadiums around the country are older, with some constructed over 100 years ago.

One of the A-League's newer stadiums is the home of reigning champions, the Central Coast Mariners. Central Coast Stadium opened in February 2000 and was the home of the Northern Eagles NRL club. Unfortunately, the Eagles abandoned the stadium and went out of business, leaving the venue without a tenant.

The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup will kick off in July, with the 32 best women's teams in the world battling for the trophy. Fans are debating which team will win the Women's World Cup. Before the tournament starts, fans can read the Ladbrokes review to learn more about the bookmaker.

In 2005, Central Coast Stadium became the home arena of the new A-League soccer club, the Central Coast Mariners. The league kicked off its inaugural season the same year, with eight teams competing in year No 1. The stadium, which is located in Gosford, is about an hour away from Sydney.

The stadium has a capacity of 20,059. During the 2022-23 A-League season, the Central Coast Mariners averaged 6,916 fans per home match. Since the Mariners debuted in the A-League, they have been the regular tenant. NRL club, the New Zealand Warriors, played at Central Coast Stadium during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

Central Coast Stadium provides visitors with incredible views of the Brisbane Water. It is an incredibly beautiful, picturesque spot to watch soccer. The venue is rectangular in shape, with stands on three sides.

The sidelines have grandstands with roofing, while the stand behind one goal is open to the elements. The end of the stadium facing the Brisbane Water does not have a stand. Rather it is open with a large scoreboard and palm trees. The openness of the stadium provides a wonderful setting. The stands on either side are identical, with two levels.

In October 2022, Central Coast Mariners entered a new agreement with Central Coast Stadium to remain at the Gosford venue. The A-League club will stay at Central Coast Stadium until 2026. The stadium is owned by the Central Coast Council, rather than by the soccer club. This means the team and council must regularly agree on a new deal.

Just a month after agreeing to a new deal with Central Coast Council, the stadium was renamed Industree Group Stadium due to sponsorship naming rights.

Central Coast had a successful 2022-23 season in the A-League. The team lifted the A-League Men's Championship. It was the club's second A-League Championship win, with the previous title coming in 2013.

Along with hosting home matches for Central Coast Mariners men's team, the stadium is also the primary venue for the women's team. Central Coast Mariners women began play in 2008 and will compete in the A-League Women in 2023-24. The team will return to action after a more than 10-year hiatus from the top level of women's soccer in Australia.
