New stand taking shape at Anfield

New stand taking shape at Anfield

The new main stand at Liverpool is beginning to take shape with the gigantic new roof support recently added. Due to be open by the start of next season, the new stand will increase Anfield's capacity to around 54,000 making it the 4th biggest league ground in English football.

Watch out for the train, lino!

Watch out for the train, lino!

Being a linesman (sorry, "Assistant Referee") is a difficult job at the best of times. But it's even harder if you're in Slovakia. Linos there not only have to watch for offsides, but also need to keep an eye out for trains running them over!

That's the case at amateur side TJ Tatran Cierny Balog where a live train line runs between the main stand and the pitch! Don't believe me? Take a look at the video...

Brunton Park flooded again

Brunton Park flooded again

As you've probably seen on the national news, Storm Desmond has brought server flooding to the North West with Carlisle United's Brunton Park under water again.

In a great gesture by the club, the players and officials have been helping the local community get back on its feet by offering their services to help out in any way they can. Players have been cleaning the debris, moving furniture and generally helping out stricken local residents.

A fantastic gesture by the club, and something that's to be applauded by everyone.

My son's first match - a proud moment for any father

A proud moment for any father

I recently had one of the proudest moments a father has - taking my son to his first football match. My son is only 2 and a half, but we had a really enjoyable day and got the right result as well. A very personal one, but something that I wanted to write for my son when he gets a little older.

'Tis the season to be groundhopping

'Tis the season to be groundhopping!

The busy festive period is a great time of year to get to a new ground and experience a different level of football. All non-league teams are playing over Christmas and will be expecting bumper crowds so why not leave the family at home and take in a new ground?

FGM includes over 4,100 grounds and our nearest grounds feature allows you to search for what's nearby - I'll be using it to escape my mother-in-law on Boxing Day!!

The world's barmiest groundhopper

My love of non-league football by Tony Incenzo - the world's barmiest groundhopper

Talksport commentator Tony Incenzo has been to over 2,000 football grounds and had even seen a game in prison. He's one of the most dedicated football supporters in the world and his love of the non-league game is to be admired.

He has written a short article explaining about his passion for the game and his exploits trying to get to as many grounds as possible

New Stadium for AFC Wimbledon

Wimbledon to return home to Plough Lane

AFC Wimbledon's dream of moving back to their spiritual home at Plough Lane is set to become reality with planning permission granted for a new stadium.

The 11,000-seater stadium will be built on the site of the current greyhound stadium and the capacity can be expanded to 20,000 should the need arise.

As part of a bigger redevelopment of the area, the plans also include over 600 residential units as well as retail and commercial space and a leisure club.

That's all folks!

Thanks for reading - hope you enjoyed it! I'll be sending the next newsletter sometime in February. If you have any news you'd like included, please contact me using one of the methods below.

Good luck to your team in their next game, hope you enjoy the next ground you go to!
