News about Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green new stadium begins construction

Saturday 18th February 2023

League One side Forest Green Rovers have started construction of their new wooden stadium.

The new ground will have a capacity of around 5,000 and is being built next to junction 13 of the M5 motorway, around 10 miles away from the New Lawn.

The wider development will also host a number of carbon-neutral businesses and the site will generate 80% of its own power requirements.

Forest Green Rovers get planning permission for new stadium

Friday 20th December 2019

Forest Green Rovers have been granted outline planning permission for a new stadium - 6 months after it was originally rejected.

The famously green League 2 side will now press ahead with their plans to build a new stadium made entirely out of wood.

The new 5,000 capacity stadium will be located just off junction 13 of the M5. The club are hoping to open the new ground in 3 years time.

Forest Green denied planning permission for new stadium

Thursday 13th June 2019

Forest Green have been denied planning permission for their new stadium.

The ground was due to be built next to the M5 motorway, but Stroud District Council rejected the plans due to fears about community benefit, noise pollution and the impact on the landscape.

If approved, the new 5,000 capacity stadium would have been built entirely of wood and have been ready for the start of the 2023/2024 season.

The League 2 side are appealing the decision, but will play at The New Lawn for the foreseeable future.
