First Game

My first game was likely to be a Charlton home game at the start of the 63-64 season. I was told that I started going regularly when I was four, and this would seem to be the right time of the year for my dad to take me. I certainly don't remember a time when I didn't go, and the climb up the East Terrace at The Valley is so clearly etched in my memory.

Best Game

So, so many games... But the biggest 'high' I got from watching Charlton was the play off final. No, not the Sunderland game, but the first play off final replay at St Andrews against Leeds. A game in which defeat would undoubtedly have seen the club fold, as we'd be playing second tier football at Selhurst Park. The play off final then was a two legged affair. Both teams had won 1-0 and manager Lennie Lawrence had opted for the replay to take place at a neutral venue. In the most hostile atmosphere I've ever experienced, Charlton went 1-0 down in extra time, only for Yorkshireman Peter Shirtliff to score two in the last ten minutes to save our first division status. A unique night.

Worst Game

So, so many games... With three 7 goal defeats to choose from, it may be surprising to choose defeat in the last Premiership season away at Middlesborough. Les Reed was manager, but the players seemed to have no interest in playing for him. It may have only been 2-0 (I think) but the nature of the defeat and the long journey home was depressing. I felt similarly in the 3-0 defeat at Doncaster in 2014 - the last game before Kermogant and Stephens were sold. But at least we stayed up this time.
