"Shepshed Dynamo FC - The Dovecote"

has rated The Dovecote 4.0 out of 5.

johnwickenden's review of The Dovecote

I have to admit it - I like the Dovecote. It's a proper old fashioned non-league ground. Sure it has it's faults and in places it's a bit rickety, but it has character, it's a good place to watch the game and the supporters are passionate. and not once have I mentioned the fact that it's located in Butthole Road (a fact that the club seem immenseley proud of).

Location

The Dovecote is located in the north of Shepshed. Take a right turn at the first set of traffic lights you come to after exiting the M1 and follow the road (Forest?) all the way to the end. There is no rail station in Shepshed - the nearest one being in Loughborough. There is no car parking at the ground, but spectators can park at the nearby school. The Black Swan Pub is right opposite the ground

View

The turnstiles are in the south east corner and the southern side of the ground houses the clubhouse and snackbar. Accomodation on this side is covered terracing although there is a small area of raised seating for Directors. The left end of the ground is uncovered. The far side houses the main stand which contains approx 200 + seats. The view from the seats is slightly impeded. The right hand end of the ground also contains a seated stand behind the goal, next to which is the extremely well stocked club shop and club offices.

Facilities

There are toilets in the clubhouse. Others are signposted to behind the stand but these were locked on my visit.. The clubshop has a huge collection of non-league programmes and books for sale, plus club shirts, badges and car stickers (sold out of scarves though)

Food & Drink

The Dynamo Diner is located alongside the clubhouse. It sells burgers, chips, chocolate bars etc but also a range of pies and its reasonable value.

Police & Stewards

There were a number of stewards on duty for the Midland League clash with porting Khalsa. All were helpful and friendly

Atmosphere

The crowd for my visit was 128 but there was far more atmosphere and noise than at other grounds with similar sized crowds. Dynamo fans were really quite vocal for a club at this level.
