"Not As Good As You May Think"

Ok, I will admit straight away that Old Trafford is impressive. The size of the place is quite outstanding really, and if it were to be expanded even more, well, it will just be even more of a spectacle.

But, this stadium may not be quite what you'd expect. For starters, it's unbelievably cramped in the away end. Not just in your seat (if I were to have been sitting down my legs would surely have broken) but also in the concourse, which near to kick off is just too packed to move properly.

It also lacks one thing you wouldn't expect from a stadium that can house up to 73,000 home supporters, a lack of atmosphere. When I went the match was one that was going to have a big effect on the race for the Premier League title, and the home support made no noise for probably 85 of the 90 minutes.

Location

Not too bad, you can get to Exchange Quay easily enough on the Metrolink, but this is still a bit of a walk to the stadium, and the trams are absolutely packed after the match. I did fear for my safety on the return journey to Manchester Piccadilly.

View

The view of the pitch for me was impeccable. I was at just the right height and distance from the pitch to be able to take everything in perfectly.

Facilities

Not the best considering the amount of work that's gone into the rest of the stadium, could be improved on a lot.

Food & Drink

Expensive and pretty average to be honest.

Police & Stewards

The last time I saw so many police was during the Brixton riots. Far too many police considering there was no real aggro and the stewards were unnecessarily forceful.

Atmosphere

When you take everything in to account, the atmosphere is so poor. This was a match between Chelsea and Manchester United, the top two. The two teams fighting it out to become the Champions and the winner of that match would have one hand on the trophy. The home support didn't sing whatsoever and were out-sung by the away support for ninety odd minutes. It really was very poor considering the magnitude of the game.
