Leeds United 2 v Derby County 0 - League Cup, 27 Sep 1971
This was the first game I went to that mattered - I'd already been a few times to Bradford Park Avenue and Bradford City, but only ever wanted to go to Leeds. This game was a 'birthday treat'. I can't remember whether or not the match was any good - I couldn't believe my dad had finally taken me to Elland Road. I spent the evening mesmerised by the white shirts, dazzling under the floodlights, with Terry Cooper sprinting up and down the wing. Two typical goals from Peter Lorimer, both from free kicks, won it for Leeds
Best Game
Leeds United 2 v Barcleona 1 - European Cup Semi-Final 1st Leg, 9 Apr 1975
Queued for tickets from the early hours of the morning a couple of weeks before the game. On the day I went straight to Elland Road from school. The ground was rammed to the gunnels. It wasn't the best game but the atmosphere was electric. Barcelona, with Johan Cruyff and Johan Neeskens at the peak of their powers, were never really in the game
Worst Game
Leeds United 0 v Watford 3 - Championship Play-Off Final, 21 May 2006
Terrible journey to the Millennium Stadium by train, arriving 45 minutes before kick-off in heavy drizzle. Arriving wet in the ground, the roof was closed, making it very steamy and noisy, yet this didn't generate a great atmosphere - the singing just sounded like a racket. Leeds never turned up. After the match, ours was the last train out of Cardiff...which took seven hours to get back to Leeds
Fantastic atmosphere, plenty of room, great lines of sight.
I have been to Celtic Park for friendly games with Leeds a couple of times - the first of which was in front of an almost capacity crowd, which Leeds won 2-1. Outside the ground fans from both teams mingled freely and without problems. Once inside, some idiots from Leeds started singing sectarian songs, which didn't exactly endear them to the natives
My last visit was in 1978 so it may have changed. If not, little elevation from the terracing, cold and unwelcoming. At least we won, 3-0
